Dear Members and Friends of The PORT,

Attached is the May 2017 Portlight. As highlighted on the cover of this month's newsletter, excitement is building for our annual "One Great Day of Music" on Sunday, May 21. This is a service you won't want to miss.  See page 4 for details about our upcoming Youth Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, May 6. Bring your family and friends for a night out, and help raise money for our youth programs. The financial results from the 2016 Bazaar are in. See page 5 for an article from Russ Cox about how the funds are going to be used. 

This Sunday, April 30, is the last day to bring donations for Avenues for Youth, the youth homelessness project Jael Medzagoh is working on through school. 60% of youth experiencing homelessness have a parent who has been incarcerated; 29% of youth who are homeless are also parents; and 44% have been physically abused as a child. Please bring new underwear (men’s or women’s), gift cards in $5-$25 increments for grocery stores or Target/Walmart, or new educational activities for children. We have an opportunity to help youth rise out of homelessness and on to a more solid future.

Lastly, don't forget about our first spring clean-up that's happening at the PORT on Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. As the famous quote goes, "many hands make light work".
